Think of gaps and the target SP as survey pegs highlighting the journey of the price, usually a pause in the journey of the price. They are not a prompt to enter or leave the market in my opinion. They usually get filled because the price will eventually catch up. Those who are seeking to enter or sometimes leave the market may decide to use the arrival at the gap as a reason to act.
Do what the smart money does, learn to interpret the subtle moves and act on those if you wish to succeed. All in my humble opinion, of course.
