"Whilst the case here describes BTM incision in the context of sternotomy, the principles could be applied (in theory) to a variety of surgical wounds that may require access through the BTM for other indications such as orthopaedic fixation. This case may also be of interest when integrating BTM overlies bony defects at other sites requiring re-intervention such as during limb trauma reconstruction as also examined in a study of complex wound defects by Solanki et al."

In other words if re-intervention is required BTM may be versatile enough to provide wound closure without complication afterward.
