The ideal field-deployable topical therapy for the treatment of burns in the battlefield should be a cost-effective, lightweight, easy-to-use, single-component, one-time application product. The therapy should provide rapid coverage to protect the injured area from contamination and subsequent infections. In addition, it should create a moist wound environment to prevent burn wound progression and reduce pain. The ideal therapy should also have antimicrobial properties and contain factors that accelerate healing.^{16,17,20–22} Today, several advanced wound care products, such as skin substitutes and matrices are available for the treatment of burns. These modern therapies provide barrier function, infection protection, and promotion of re-epithelialization and could therefore be better suited to the PFC of wounded service members than the current SOC, SSD. Furthermore, several clinical studies have shown that DPT burns heal faster and require fewer applications with biosynthetic topical treatments than with SSD.^{15,17,20–26}
