There is a fairly recently published study that reports on ADM for skin closure during in utero spina bifida repair in a sheep model. This followed previous studies in both rat and rabbit models.
The researchers state that ADM for in utero repair of severe spina bifida, where primary skin layer closure is not possible, is associated with poor neurological outcomes.
They tested ADM against a cryopreserved human umbilical cord (HUC) patch in the procedure and concluded that the HUC as a skin patch for in utero spina bifida repair preserves spinal cord function by reducing underlying inflammation when compared to ADM.
It will interesting to see how the BTM use in spina bifida repair performed.
