Signs that PolyNovo keeps marching forward….
(1) The European Wound Management Conference is being held in London next month , from May 1-3. PolyNovo is exhibiting and a symposium on use of BTM in wound healing and limb salvage in diabetic foot complications will be held with Dr. Kate Merriman, a consultant vascular surgeon at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals.
Several posters and abstracts related to BTM will also be presented at the conference –
- A 1 year follow-up case report on BTM use in reconstruction of lower limb necrotising fasciitis by plastic surgeons at Chelsea and Westminster NHS.
- Learning points and outcomes from using BTM in complex wound reconstruction from a case series in a tertiary plastic surgery service, by surgeons from North Bristol NHS Trust.
- Using BTM in a patient with chronic limb threatening ischaemia and extensive tissue loss, by Vicky Bristow, a vascular specialist nurse at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
- A report on early experience of using BTM for the management of complex DFUs, by Donna Larsen a Nurse Practitioner from Perth in WA. Larsen is currently a Board Manager for the Australian Journal, Wound Practice and Research, a member of the Australian and New Zealand Venous Leg Ulcer Advisory Panel and has a panel appointment with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- A poster on the strategic use of BTM in wound healing from plastic surgeon, Dr. Dun Hao Chang from Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, Taipai , Taiwan (great to see Taiwan getting in on the action!)
- Finally, Dr. Marco Marciano, from Palermo in Italy reports on a prospective pilot single centre study treating complex DFUs with BTM. Last November I provided evidence of BTM being purchased for use in Ragusa, Sicily so BTM seems to be garnering appreciation in Sicily!
(2) According to David Williams in his latest interview, PNV has appointed a Head of APEC last week. This suggests to me that Asia is about to get a push. In the February web conference it was stated that PNV had already identified a partner in Japan. Near future action on Japan?
(3) David Williams also reported that Novosorb MTX is already being widely used by plastic surgeons in the US, prior to its formal launch. He reports that it is mainly being used to “pack” wounds.
(4) Burns trial enrolments are now just one or two shy of 100. Like Swami Raote during the web conference in February, David Williams suggested the possibility that BARDA/FDA may call an early close to the intended 120-participant study after review of interim data. If so, that could happen any time now.
(5) The American Burn Association is holding its Annual Meeting this week. PolyNovo is exhibiting and conducting a Wound Care Workshop. Our CEO, CMO, Chief Technical and Scientific Officer, Director of R & D and Director of Medical and Scientific Affairs will all be there. Particularly interesting is PolyNovo's invitation to surgeons to “Help shape innovation and the future of wound care” which provides a chance to discuss and test PolyNovo prototype devices. Interested parties need to register and sign an NDA first. During the web conference in February, Swami Raote mentioned that hernia mesh prototypes were being shared with surgeons to get feedback so this would seem to be part of that process. Swami also suggested that they might look at comparing PNV’s knitted mesh hernia solution with the No. 1 product on the market. Hernia device regulatory submission in the not-too-distant future?
