Thursday, 13 July 2006
The local agents for UK-based mobile application platform Pocket Portal have announced a trial with Telstra's search and advertisings arm Sensis.
MTX, a subsidiary of VoIP and Internet Service Provider, Broad IP, has entered into contract to provide the Pocket Portal software from UK mobility specialist AmpleFuture. The trial will test a new approach to an existing Sensis offering 191SMS (191767).
The company will use the Java and Symbian-based mobile phone application platform to develop an advanced version of the service as a prelude to offering more advanced search and information delivery solutions in the future.
Using the Pocket Portal application, Sensis customers will be able to easily access basic search functionality via their mobile phones, said MTX.
Currently the Sensis SMS product allows consumers to text a message, in a specified format to the 191SMS number. This retrieves personal and business listings, movie information as well as surf, snow and weather reports.
Using the Pocket Portal application, Sensis plans to make the service more easily accessible to consumers by allowing direct download of the Sensis SMS application to their mobile handsets.
Pocket Portal an online web authoring environment for Java and Symbian clients, is compatible with more than 160 mobile phone.
The platform has already been tried and tested in the region and was the engine behind the award wining MTV "Mobbed" product.
Mobbed, by MTV and Motorola was named "Best Mobile Phone Application" at the Asian MobileNews Awards.
Mobbed in its mobile form consists of nine icons which remain as a consistent umbrella across the region. Users can access localised content such as the latest developments in the music world, updates on style-trends and happenings in their country or region.
