Its exactly this sentiment. At the end of the day gold doesn't do anything. It doesn't earn you money by generating sales, it doesn't earn you interest. It's kinda pretty and good to look at but other than that its basically useless.
The reason gold was pushed so high was a fear that governments were going to collapse (or decline rapidly) and people wanted something they could hold onto.
Now that the Fed feels like it might be able to stop printing so much money heavily there is less worry about solvency thus less need for physical gold.
