US and Poland seal American missile shield deal

The Polish prime minister announced Thursday night, Aug. 14, that Warsaw and Washington had finally agreed after 18 months of negotiations on the deployment of a battery of American missiles in Poland. This plan, which has deeply angered Moscow, is especially significant on the day the Russians appear to be winding down their contentious military confrontation with Georgia.
