    That is one interpretation, however Genesis in the first part describes the actions of a single couple, clearly describing the creation of the first man....who did not have a 'helpmate' - so Eve, his mate, was described to have been created by God putting Adam to sleep and creating Eve from his rib;

    ''So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh. 22And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him. 23And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken…''

    As this clearly does not describe mankind being created en mass, the rationale of plurality does not work, and the second part, being plural is just a generalization of creation....or it contradicts the first part.

    But however you look at it, the generations that are listed from the time of 'Adam' onward do not add up to ten thousand years, yet alone hundreds of thousands of years....with the only world wide cataclysm described in the bible being Noah's Flood.

    And of course, that science and the biblical world view are not compatible.
