First story 6 days you say, and the opener in Gen ch 2, says, suggests the exact same story.
Gen 2:1-2 - Thus were finished the heavens and the earth and all the host of them. --> includes man. And ended God on the day seventh His work which He had done -- and He rested on the day seventh from all His work which He had done.
So God in ch 1 goes out of his way to clarify what a day is and how many of them and ALL things were completed in 6 days, heavens and earth, blowing the said Gap theory between Gen 1:2 & 3, out of the water.
Where it mentions the word generations (questionable), it does NOT say, this is the order in which these things, generations, came into being. And where we see the word "day", it would be rightfully so, to use the word "Days" = simple's and flow.
