The Board of iron ore company Polaris Metals NL (ASX: POL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Jim Nicholson as Operations Manager. Mr Nicholson will play an important role in assisting Polaris in its transition to iron ore producer.
Prior to taking up the position at Polaris, Mr Nicholson was Resident Manager for Perilya Limited at the Beltana Project, South Australia. Jim has also held a number of Surface Mining Manager and Project Manager Positions in Western Australia and Victoria for Placer Dome Asia Pacific, AurionGold, Goldfields Australia and Perseverance Corporation.
In a career in the mining industry spanning over 25 years, Jim has been involved with all aspects of project development and surface mining with a range of commodities. Polaris’ Managing Director, Mr Jonathan Lea said, “We are delighted that a person of the calibre of Jim is joining our team.
“As the Yilgarn Iron Ore Project and in particular the Carina resource moves towards commencement of mining, Jim’s expertise in practical, cost effective and timely project development and mine commissioning and supervision will be invaluable."
“Mr Nicholson will be actively involved in the definitive feasibility studies expected to commence in the second half of 2008 including obtaining the statutory approvals to allow mining to commence.”
