Police were called to a Young Liberals meeting in Sydney's north-west last night after about 40 uninvited people tried to force their way in.

Just after 6.00pm 13 officers were sent to the Castle Hill electorate office of Federal MP Alex Hawke.

Mr Hawke says the event was a scheduled meeting of the local Young Liberals branch.

"I think there were probably some heated tempers," he said.

"Some people got out of control and, of course, the use of any force in relation to any meeting is completely unacceptable.

"Once I witnessed the use of force I had no choice but to suspend the activities and contact the police."

It is believed the uninvited people were from the party's far right faction, which Mr Hawke has now split from.

A spokeswoman for the Liberal Party says the state director Mark Neeham is concerned and is investigating.
