goon, I would blame the media for any negative generalisations that people of other cultures may have of Australians when they have not had much opportunity to interact with others on a personal basis.
Whilst extremists exist in all societies, it is the media, in their quest to draw audiences and keep them entertained, who focus on the extremes and the sensational.
I have many times commented that we often allow our opinions of others to be formed by those people of a different society who make the front page news.
If you take a quick look back through our own front pages, what sort of impressions are people of other cultures likely to form of us if they too allow the impressions thus gained to be the basis of theirs.
