Quite the contrary, Rabbs. The show demonstrated very lucidly that the loudmouthed redneck, hate-clogged racists are a minority in Oz. There is an enormous hope in the hearts of the aussie muslims to want to be part of the winning team of aussies and to represent Oz in all fields of endeavour. They want to show that their religion -in contrast to what the rednecks perpetuate in rumours, dreadful yellow rag media, bad policing and even worse secret agency workers- keeps them good and proper citizens here. They love this country even though they are persecuted on a daily basis; and they are persecuted not for anything in particular, not because of any evidence against individuals but simply because they are from the countries they are. It was a racist hatred that every immigrant group to this country has felt when it first entered the country, in spite of the fact that they were invited here. I have personal experience of this: for me and the Greek part of my family as well as for the Japanese part of my family. In a couple of years, I believe, these redneck losers will shift their attention to another group, a new lot of arrivals. The Sudanese are copping this vile attention now. They are losers and they want to blame their lack of achievement onto others. Foreigners or foreign-looking people are a legitimate target in their herd.
Nothing sounded more vulgar than the hysterical screeches of that woman when she yelled, "we are aussies!" I wonder how many people screamed inside themselves, "don't include me in that word, 'we' dear. I'm an aussie, too but I think very differently to you." I wonder how many in that crowd had foreign but western backgrounds.
The show was too timid for my liking but it was still an eye opener for those who wanted to open their eyes. The blind, ignorant, chauvinistic racists will stay like that till the day they die. But I have enormous hope -and evidentiary understanding- that they are a dying and diminishing DNA.
The 7.30 report just demonstrated how disgusting and effective that herd of losers is, this time directed to aborigines. Common loser behaviour: they'll hate anything and anyone who stands out. Common xenophobic behaviour among them.
