Well, the doctors were wrong. The lad's gut bacteria weren't completely destroyed. His mother came to see me again nine weeks ago. Number of diarrhoeaic stools down to around ten per day, but colon completely inflamed, smooth, and not responding to immune suppressants or anti-inflammatories, so colectomy required.
As there had been some improvement, only ten stools instead of twenty indicating that the entire biome hadn't been destroyed, she wanted to try anything that might avoid a colostomy bag. As did he. So I told them that he must come off all medication, have a non-inflammatory diet and only one meal a day, to give his gut maximum rest. We had to compromise on two meals a day. But, after nine weeks steady improvement I saw him again today for a possible wrist fracture (didn't show up on X-ray), which is par for the course for a young semi-professional AFL player, and his stools are now properly formed and only twice a day.
To me, this was only common sense. If there is inflammation, especially in the gut, cut out inflammatory foods. The specialist was of the opposite opinion. Didn't matter what he ate, Maccas was fine, it wouldn't affect his condition in the slightest.

Semi-professional AFL player complaining of ten loose stools per day (down from twenty) and (diagnosed??) with chronic inflammation of the colon ..... I find this more and more bizzarre and then to add talk of a colostomy bag??
