I thought that modern PC is a by-product of the feminist movement - when spokesman became spokesperson etc. Fair enough I suppose if you are a female spokesman.
But now it's morphed into something different - eg. actress becomes actor, presumably because the '-ress' suffix is interpreted as being less powerful than the traditionally male form of the noun.
