"Political Correctness is the scourge of our society..."
----
I only listened to the last person. A few observations of mine:
* Brendan used the e.g. of Girl Guides changing their oath. One could argue the original oath to "God" and "Queen" was essentially the political correctness of the day... ie you had to conform to what society of the day expected from you. It would be politically incorrect to not plead allegiance to "God" or "Queen".
* Brendan used the e.g. of changing the words of the kid's song "What Shall We Do with the drunken sailor". Did not religion and politics in the old days censor books, TV, articles to protect the innocent from cultural or religious inappropriateness? Again, a form of political correctness right there.
Now we all know previous generations werent perfect... they were mostly uneducated, ignorant, racist, sexist, etc... their language was based on a notional superiority... whats the harm in updating previous political correctness to accommodate a wider audience e.g. the Queen is not my Queen, the God is not necessarily my god.
