I remember in the late 70's riding to school with my rifle (in it carry bag) with the stock tucked against the seat post and the barrel on the handle bars with ammunition in my school bag.
The rifle sat behind my bag till lunch when 10 to 12 of us then piled into the back of the PE teachers 4wd ute then off to Belmont rifle range where we shot the crap out of targets for 2 hours.
