    The problem with your ideal of an independents-only parliament is that everyone has a political agenda, so instead of 2, 3, 4, 5 or more political parties, the parliament would be comprised of 76 independents in the Senate, each with their own political agenda, and 151 independents in the lower house, each with their own political agendas.......sounds very much like anarchy to me.
