IMO the Government and the ACCC are the villains in the piece. If they are really serious in having competion in the land, the Government should be doing something about the banks and the oil companies.
Telstra is a child of its own making and has become a convenient victim to kick around, to make the Government and it's servant the ACCC look good, as though they are serving the interests of the community. They are blinded by the illusion of power.
The Government is so dumb that it seems not to understand that their white elephant, the NBN, cannot survive without the support of Testra and that it could save the country $43 billion if it encouraged Telstra to develop further and provide the service that the Government claims to want.
Surely that is what the Government wanted when it privatised Telstra!!!
There is still no guarentee that the NBN will be a success, and it may clearly become a financial millstone around the neck of the Government. How many will want to buy shares in the NBN?
All will soon be revealed. Pride commeth before a fall.
