2007-05-14 Great Lakes region summit approves $2.2b budget
A special summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes region (IC/GLR) has approved a budget of $2.2 billion for 30 projects to be implemented in the region. It also approved a further $2.174 million for the conference secretariat headquarters and its activities. The projects to be funded include those involved in peace and security matters, democracy, good governance, economic development, regional integration, humanitarian and social issues. President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi who officially opened the conference said the decision to have Bujumbura as the headquarters of the Conference Secretariat was a strong signal of confidence in Burundi and its people.
