Politicians lurks and perks have been brought into law by themselves and available to each and every politician. Thompson's behaviour was criminal and he has paid the price. This difference needs to be pointed out. TU rorters no doubt believe the age of entitlement is still alive and well, but then so do politicians believe they are entitled to their perks. One set of behaviour is criminal, the other is legal. Politicians have the power to award themselves their own lifestyles.
