Tas, which once promoted themselves as "the battery of the nation", has taken a combined cycle gas turbine out of 5 yrs of mothballs to be generating flat out for a couple of weeks now. Now I'm a fan boy of hydro but it was never intended to be base load. I remember looking over the shoulder of the control room operator at Kareeya and he was beaming: They had generated 110% for the month.
Some old and discredited brown coal power stations in Vic are still doin OK. Loy Yang B has been flat out for months, and cut the crap, it is CONSISTENTLY cheap power.
