If Ben Fordham supports "high speed" rail you know its crap.

Typically, the current service makes 20 odd stops.
If you reduce the stops to zero, or one, or two, in Gosford and Hornsby, say,
you already have a high speed railway for free.

A new railway with the same stops, as currently, will only save a few minutes.
Add some rain and high speed rail becomes slow speed rail.
    Its all about friction.

And then there's the maintenance cost, ongoing.

Railways only go where the tracks go.
