Should Kevin Rudd rethink his proposed 40 per cent super-profits tax on mining companies?
    Yes, it'll destroy the industry
    79.72% (11568 votes)
No, miners should pay their share
    20.28% (2943 votes)

I don't anyone in Govt is yet to fathom the ripple effect this will have for jobs and foreign investment, even if you ignore the mining companies themselves.

No matter how you argue it, it's taking approximately 13% off the bottom line of our biggest companies to plug holes elsewhere. It's not hype to say that the financial viability of many projects will be questioned.

Mr Kloppers (BHP CEO) said it had only been a week since the government revealed its Resource Super Profits Tax, so it was too early to say whether the project would be shelved.

"What I can say, though, is if you move the tax rate from 44 per cent to 57 per cent or possibly more, that doesn't make it any easier."

It's a cost, like any other cost, and it WILL have an impact. That cannot be denied.
