PREPARATIONS for the Bougainville Regional by-election are on track following the decision by the Bougainville Resistance Forces to return the keys to the provincial electoral office. Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen thanked the Resistance Force’s leadership, saying their actions showed their desire to solve problems through peaceful means. The onus is now on the Government to pay the force’s outstanding allowances, which initially led to the takeover and locking of the electoral office, Mr Trawen said. “The Bougainville peoples’ constitutional right for a provincial representative in the National Parliament was being threatened and it is only right that the Electoral Commission will now go ahead and plan the Bougainville provincial seat by-election without any threat,” Mr Trawen said in a statement. “I have now instructed my officers in Port Moresby to travel to Buka and make sure all preparations are done in time to abide by the legal time line.”
