polyprenol patents

Just did some quick checking, and found some patents on polyprenol. The Chinese have some on this as well, seems like the Gingko biloba tree is a good source amongst a few others: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginkgo

Think the thing going for this company is its quick ramp up and mass production of the polyprenols.

Here is the patent abstract for the preparation method from Gingko, for the extraction of polyprenols for the treatment of tumour, of all things. First patent to look at, many more interesting ones.

Abstract

The title medical compn. is prepd. by the following steps: (1) extg. Ginkgo biloba leaf with oleophilic solvent, filtering, and combining, (2) adding alc. soln. contg. alkali (10%-20%), (3) hydrolyzing for 4-8 h, washing with petroleum ether and water, and recovering solvent to obtain rough polyprenol ext., (4) supercrit. extg. with carbon dioxide at 30-60C and 10-30 MPa and stage-by-stage releasing pressure to obtain polyprenol (purity 80%), and (5) manufg. medical compn. from the polyprenol and pharmaceutic adjuvant with normal method. The medical compn. can be made into soft capsule, dripping pill, emulsion, oral soln. and injection.
