I can’t see Ponds being displaced anytime soon. The world needs any Li it can get its hands on.
Perhaps we will see fewer evaporation ponds in the flow sheets to meet environmental concerns. But their overall demise is not near. We are still knocking down trees and digging up brown coal at a rate of knots. Ponds are well down the list (except for the local communities that rely on such water).
Yes technology can play role in disrupting the flow sheets for Li brine miners but it’s not going to be a complete shut out of ponds. And given the risks in still proving the various DLE tech at scale and on commercial terms there is still quite a bit water to flow under that proverbial bridge.
