If you've got someone in the side who's a better captain then the captain himself then the side won't function. There'll be unrest. Nothing works and Clarkes and others lack of form is probably just a symptom of that. Clarke's batting has no doubt suffered by coming up the order and being exposed to short bowling(especially seeing Ponting is out so early nowadays). Hughes actually looks to me like he's finding his feet and I expect we'll see a good score soon. Ponting started his captaincy with a Rolls-Royce side but even then he was only ever average as a leader. Clarke isn't really all that well liked by the public it seems but he still might prove to be a good captain. Time will tell. Haddin's got enough on his plate and Hussey has probably only got a year left. To say that the individuals form is not the responsibility of the captain - well, what is the captains responsibility?
