Oil prices moved either way as traders weighed a rise in US inventories and production cuts in Canada due to a fire.
US Nymex crude added 0.3 per cent to $US43.78 a barrel while global benchmarkBrent crude fell US35c to $US44.62.
Energy stocks declined 1.3 per cent.
