Coopec , you have contributed several comments which indicate Oil may not be around much longer. I liked the comment about the Stone Age coming to an end long before we used up all the stone.
Personally I think it came to an end because late one Hot Humid Friday afternoon many of the older more experienced stone masons said F---- This , there must be an easier way to build a wall.
Any way back to the Oil thing , Lycoming , Continental , GE, Rolls Royce , Pratt and Whitney and many more of the leading companies in the world spend billions of dollars every year on research. As do the major Oil companies. Shell and Lycoming have just finalised blue prints to improve piston engines to the point where they are much safer and more fuel efficient than ever before. They have decided to use a fuel higher in oil and lower in lead , great for the environment , and fantastic for the Oil companies.
Just a few years ago around the time we had ( peak oil ) cough cough. Peak Oil , god help us , the smart money was saying these engines will be dead and buried within 5 years. Guess what , engine builders have doubled their output.
A 747 carries approximately 250,000 ltrs of Kero , tens of thousands of these Oil Burners take to the skys every week , yes tens of thousands of them. They are burning billions of ltrs of Oil based Kero.
Their windows , their seats , the floors , the instruments , the entire plane , even the bottles of water they hand out either have oil as a base or used oil to be manufactured.
And that’s just the things which fly , what about the things that float , or the things which bull doze and or dig holes in the ground the size of Tasmania , and then come back in a few years and fill em in again , so what if China has realised they have too many Cars and now begin to bring back the bullock , Who cares if the Ding Bats in an American City have decided woops , hey , come on hey , we simply have too many cars , come on leave your car at home today.
Boing and airbus cannot build jets quick enough , Companies cannot train Pilots quick enough , we are witnessing a massive massive boom in human cargo. These things will be using Oil until the cows come home. And lots of it.
Ill bet when you eventually turn your toes up , there will be a machine standing by to fill in the hole they dug for you and that machine will use Oil or a very hot fire roaring away which uses Gas. Either way , right up until then you will be paying for Energy.
Australian Oil and Gas companies are cheap today , they maybe cheaper tomorrow , but they will not be cheap forever.
