    Vain,

"Australia suffers from what economists call Dutch Disease. The commodity sector boom cycles kills off any other sectors.
Perhaps we should separate Australia into two countries: NSW+VIC versus everybody else. One country to focus on high tech and manufacturing. The other country digs stuff out of the ground. Think of it like a corporate spin-off off a poorly performing subsidiary."

Australia was built on cheap food and cheap energy. Most of the Sydney/Melbourne set don't get that and they think they are some how competitive with the rest of the world.

The cheaper your food & energy the more disposable income you have to do other things.

The only thing that Sydney and Melbourne exceed the rest of the world in is delusion!!!

The net balance of production vs consumption in Sydney and Melbourne is so frightening that I bet you have never looked at it.

The real trouble with Australia is that it is full of carpetbaggers that live in the Bloated Cities and now everybody has gone back to believing in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and a "Generous Government"!

I didn't add the Fairies at the Bottom Of The Garden as the Fairies at the Bottom Of The Garden have always been believed in!!!
