    There's something about the original piece that doesn't make sense.

    "The average calorific value used in the calculation of Scottish gas bills is currently over 39 megajoules per cubic metre. .. A gas consultant with 30 years' experience, confirmed that the calorific value of the methane apparently to come from Airth would need to be boosted."

    The standard for Scottish gas is 39 MJ/CM - ie. exactly that of pure methane without any added longer chain hydrocarbons.

    CO2 (if present) is going to be stripped from the gas before sale so it's hard to see how it would be below spec at all. And surely gas quality is one of the first things that would have been investigated before a sales agreement was signed.
