poor people skipping meals

during the week, there were a couple of reports from some welfare agency, which claimed that people were so poor, that they were skipping meals etc, or that the kids were going without breakfast etc.

this sort of stuff infuriates watso a bit - well, watso does not lose any sleep over it - but anyway for a sunday morning rant - but poor people are often more poor, because they like to smoke and drink - thus leaving less money for food...and then there is a problem that a lot of people do not bother to cook, or to shop properly, and it is so easy to go to a welfare agency, to get a food voucher etc.

for what it is worth, but watso cannot believe how cheap food is.

it is winter now, and what better way to start the day, than a good bowl of oats - from memory coles sells oats at about $2 per kg - and watso was in kakulas the other day, and they certainly sold oats for a lot less than $2 per kg. watso was in kakulas, to buy some curry powder - which cost about 5 or 6 per kg. forget the high priced cereals - but vitabrits, or weetbix are often on special - so much so, that each "brick" only costs 4 or 5 cents.. including milk, then breakfast should not cost more than about 50c - and maybe include some eggs - then the cost is no more than one miserable dollar.

for the main meal - pototoes can be bought for $2.50 for 4kg, basmati rice was $7 for 5kg, last week at coles, meat is pretty cheap, if one knows where to shop etc carrots 80c per kg.

anyway - watso is living the high life. raisin bread seems to be always on special (half price) these days - with heaps of raisins, so watso enjoys raisin bread smothered in peanut butter (half price at coles this week - so stocked up) topped with cheese ($6.99 per kg), and tomatoes (99c per kg) - and the coffee is good - a big jar of macconna coffee cost $20
