There will always be those that rort the system and are not in it for the right reasons however what has happened in WA also is that we have teachers taking up the role as a second choice because they failed in what they were trying to get into and worse still...NO teachers!
Nurses and teachers have always been under paid because of the belief that these are altruistic professions.
Perhaps once they were and can still be however in the society we have today if we want our kids to receive the best education then they need the services of the best educators and we should pay them accordingly.
The commenst about too many holidays etc is a furphy.
A dedicated teacher spends countless hours of his/her own time doing sport coaching, excursions, extra remedial coaching not to mention preparation of lessons.
Yes...some teachers can and do slack off...perhaps because we have attracted some of the wrong people to teaching?
