All new technology is expensive, jantimot. At the speed this tech is going it won't be long before parity with ICE is reached, range will be extended and all new cars will be electric. Try not to be so negative. I'd like to go back to riding a horse to get around (wife use to say I looked rather dashing on my horse), but the world moves on and you can't stop progress.
