Sorry in the current tax system it should be for everything, as the tax system treats you the same for all other aspects of the investment. Negative gearing helps investors provide rental accommodation whether that is new or old is irrelevant. The other thing is you guys keep telling us that there is a huge oversupply now, as such there should be no need to build anymore for now anyway.
