Assuming you are here
No need to assume - I am. I told you so.
why, has the irony of your original statement escaped you?
How is it ironic?
Obviously you don't have an issue with biting the hand that feeds you?
It doesn't feed me, and I have no inclination at all to show any kind of misplaced loyalty to an institution so obviously compromised and irrelevant to me, let alone one that peddles archaic, obsolete mumbo-jumbo.
Even with all our faults, nothing can compare to our societies (Christians in majority) and it shows with the number of people wanting to come here, their desperation like that of rats abandoning a burning cabin. Includes the Chinese, btw.
Wow. This really is sounding like 1901...
You seem to be blaming all Catholics for the actions of a few?
The subject of the article is the Pope - who is head of the institution, and if you read what he is actually saying, it's frankly embarrassing. Yes, I certainly am blaming the Catholic Church for allowing the abuse and pedophilia to continue all over the world in full view, but do I attack everyday Catholics in what I have said? I will say this though, I think it is very easy to try and sweep this under the carpet by saying it is just a few rotten apples, when what is increasingly apparent is that it's far more widespread and institutionalised than that.
It's not what your parents thought when they came here.
Oh, they were born here, along with all 4 of their parents. In fact, just to put your 'You don't sound Australian to me' conspiracy theory to rest, I have 2 ancestors from the first fleet, one from the second, third and fourth, and then a whole host in subsequent ships right through to the early 1900's. Just so there is no confusion.
In any event, I'm not one for protracted online debates/discussions. I've made my point, you've made yours and our positions would unlikely ever reconcile, so I'm going to leave it there. Good luck to you.
