The other part of the story as I see it: the logical corollary of AGW is that some fairly hefty national and international regulation will be required to tackle it (as worked well with CFCs/ozone depletion, which many Righties also deny was a thing, but that's another story) - and the Right obviously hate the idea of increased taxes/regulation - so it's easier and more effective for some of them to deny the 'root reality' and attack the science itself.
