Haven't we heard all this before when the population was much lower? How is the world still coping with a 50% increase on the 4bn that we were told then was the absolute maximum. Paul Ehrlich wrote "the Population Bomb" in the late 60's predicting mass starvation.Sold a lot of copies so it was good for him even if his neo-Malthusian predictions were bogus.
Just another scare campaign to add to all the others.
I'll believe the world is at maximum carrying capacity when every house is permacultured and there are still people starving.Till then I think that it's not the population that is the problem but corrupt and stupid governments and societies and economic models. There have been plenty of famines in the past few thousand years that wiped out populations even though they were much lower, so population itself isn't the determining factor. Standards of living have increased in the past hundred years along with population, how can this be?
When David Attenborough says that the world is overpopulated I doubt he includes himself in the problem, rather than too many of us he means too many of them.
