Population growth tends to reduce as economies develop. It used to be thought that population growth needed to be reduced in order to develop economically. That thinking led to the forced sterilizations in India and the forced abortions and millions dead via infanticide in China. Funny thing is that Taiwan is more densely populated and never fell for this social planning scam. They never starved and their population stabilized after their economy developed. Now it is realized that people will have many kids when they are needed on the farm, or to support the parents in old age. So, the best mass contraceptives are industrialisation and old age pensions. So much for "experts" opinions if it took millions of deaths to open their eyes to the bleedin obvious.
Agreed that the Catholic Church is another corrupt organization like so many others. Has done some good things and a great many bad things.Their population policy is a cynical membership drive. That said,I think that the Popes announcements on birth control are fairly irrelevant to most people. If it happens to agree with what they believe then well and good, if not too bad.
As for environmental issues faced by Australia, what are they? And how would reducing immigration help? Our recent water shortages were really just the result of state governments reducing spending on water infrastructure over the last 30 years. No surprises as to the result of that policy. Aside from water, what great eco dramas do we face?
I happen to like people and don't dream of massive population reduction like some do.These are people who basically hate people and dress up their distaste for others not to their liking with a bit of neo Malthusian scientific gobbledegook.
