I did not say that. Modern politicians (all sides of the spectrum) are guilty of spending/committing funds to special interest groups/areas where they deem it will have an impact on their political success.
How often to you year in an election campaign one side or the other committing funds towards an infrastructure project or some other project to sway voters in an area - happens each and every election.
