Hey, I drive a Landrover, but I am still a petrol head at heart, and I just love the sensory experience of a well tuned, high end petrol engine.
I agree the performance of the Tesla S is quite amazing, when you test it to see what it does, it certainly surprises you, but when you drive it gently you land up going significantly faster than you realise. What a trap for enthusiastic players.
I believe we are on the edge of an electric revolution, not only EVs, but how power is delivered and used across the community as well, all driven by the evolution of high density smart batteries. We are at the beginning of this evolution and the electric revolution as well. It will not be very many years until a vehicle with an internal combustion engine will be a relic from the past, a toy, or the subject of a hobby, a bit like a horse today.
The turning point of this revolution will be two fold, firstly standardised battery modules, and standardised ways of refuelling electric vehicles.
The first will see batteries made up in standard size, voltage configurations, with their own management built in, they will be use ed in many different vehicles, and probably home power banks as well, they will be almost user replaceable. Open the battery cover, and the batteries that are deteriorating will indicate they need replaced.
Refuelling will move away from plugging in, and waiting, to replacing an empty container with a full one, probably a freshly charged supper capacitor which will then "drain down" into the battery as the car continues to drive (probably driver less).
Just my humble vision/views.
