    Centrex lays out facts

    THE views were mixed as people came away from a Centrex information booth in Port Lincoln on Saturday.

    Some were still against it, some were for it, while others had their negative views converted after receiving more information.

    Between 350 and 400 people from Port Lincoln and towns, such as Lock and Tumby Bay, attended the booth on Liverpool Street.

    Managing director Gerard Anderson said a good number of people had come and gathered information and spoken to Centrex representatives.

    “We have had a good number for, we have had some who are totally opposed, some who have had specific concerns and most of those people have gone away with information and ... a better understanding of the whole process,” he said.

    “We do not have a problem with people being opposed, we just want them to do it on fact.

    “A lot of people have concerns about various aspects of our proposals, which we expected, but nearly all of those people were willing to hear what we had to say, take our fact sheets, and approach the issues with an open mind.

    “We do not expect to win 100 per cent support but it was most encouraging that even those who are currently opposed to various aspects of our proposals are willing to look at the facts before coming to a final decision.

    “And I was particularly pleased with the number of people who came and told us they were 100 per cent behind the development.

    “I think there were only one or two people during the whole morning who said they were opposed to mining.

    “The issues which concern people are all about transport and port development, which we always knew would be the case.”

    Neville Will, who has a farm at Karkoo and recently moved to Port Lincoln, said he was all for the mining to go ahead “as long as they use best practice”.

    “My biggest concern is the road safety and preservation of the road that’s my main concern.

    “I would definitely like to have it come down by rail. I would like to have pressure put on the use of that facility.”

    Near Karkoo Mr Will had found after a big grain harvest the road tended to push out in the wheel tracks.
