A PORT Lincoln councillor does not want the council to "roll over" and accept the State Government's decision to allow Centrex Metals to export iron ore from Port Lincoln.
There is no right of appeal against Planning Minister Paul Holloway's decision to allow Centrex Metals to export iron ore from Port Lincoln but councillor Mick Bascombe said the council had an obligation to the Port Lincoln community to examine every aspect of the approval process.

Mr Bascombe will present a report to the council on Monday night asking councillors to support his call for clarification on three issues.

He wants the council to ask for legal advice about a possible conflict of interest by Mr Holloway, who is Minister for both Mineral Resources Development, and Urban Development and Planning, and he wants Mr Holloway to explain his reasons for disregarding advice from the Environmental Protection Authority in approving the application.

Mr Bascombe also said he believed a section 49 application, which is what Centrex's development application was, had to be for a multi user facility and said the council should seek legal advice about it being approved exclusively for Wilgerup iron ore.
