It's very unfortunate that these allegations were never tested in court.

The NSW Police were eager to and supported the alleged victim. They were intent to travel to SA to interview her. All permissions were in place. As stated though in the NSW Parliament by Prime Minister Scott Morrison's friend and former neighbour, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller, Fuller had "high-level discussions" with his deputy David Hudson about the rape allegations. After learning it involved the highest law officer in the land and a key minister in the LNP government, Deputy Commissioner David Hudson declined to approve it citing policies on COVID travel restrictions. A short while later the alleged victim died. It has been reported as suicide.

Considering the impact of these events on all parties, it was a great shame that the hierarchy of the NSW Police intentionally intervened in an ongoing investigation involving a public figure. Better to have left it to the people on the ground.
