I value my privacy (to a fault), so I won't be too specific. I'm none of the roles you mentioned. I'm university educated in the commerce field (not mining), which included units in accounting and law when I studied back in the day. I'm neither an actuary, stockbroker, or an accountant by official training. My education and native industry primed me to work with numbers, but I haven't worked in that industry for many, many years.
My brain works in such a way (twitch, twitch) that my training and industry practice seem to have been a good fit with my natural abilities/tendencies. I have had an interest in the stock market for almost all of my working life. My educational grounding, coupled with naturally analytical head and my generally curious nature for things that interest me (like the stock market) have all influenced me. I guess it's fair to say that much (not all) of what you read from me today is self-taught, but it wouldn't be fair if I just left it at that without acknowledging the enormous benefit (to me) of a good educational grounding that was aligned with my natural strengths. I was too young and stupid to know at the time, but looking back at it now I can see why I gravitated into the path I chose. When I was young I was told that university teaches you how to think and how to learn. I didn't understand. I thought it was nebulous airy-fairy bunk. Looking back on it, I now realise my young thinking was short-sighted and plain wrong. So grateful I stuck at it. Life has presented me with the usual challenges, which we all have, but all the crap aside, I'm eternally grateful for stumbling onto the path I did. Upon re-reading this I worry it sounds like a perfect life. Ha! Far from it! I actually failed my year 12. Directionless and clueless. I actually went to uni as a "mature-aged" (loose term) 26yo student, thanks to the support of my awesome better half. I'm rambling...
Anyway, I'm not a native of the mining industry and I still have much to learn. But I'm finding it very interesting - particularly the corporate/numbers/legal side of it, which I know is not the be all and end all, but you can't specialize in everything. I'm also a self-funded private investor who trades/invests solely using my own money (i.e. no clients - heaven forbid!)
