There would be nothing wrong with the company offering all shareholders a pro rata entitlement to buy new options with an extended date.
I don't know what the process would be to extend the terms of existing options. I don't know how you could conduct a fair vote as option holders surely couldn't vote to give themselves advantageous terms to the exclusion of others.
I think it was you who said they had seen that kind of thing happen before. I'm interested to see how it worked.
