I don't know whether that is the point. Greater improvements at an earlier age, which are maintained and (perhaps) progressed, as long as the drug is being taken, would surely lead to a better overall quality of life than a later starter.
Also, as the brain is a learning machine, perhaps the greater the opportunity for it to learn from an earlier age could induce some permanent changes, which would not otherwise have occurred.
