    Assuming the military leadership is already filthy-rich (which they are), why should they care if the broader economy screeches to a halt while they cement their power-base?

    If anyone has a problem, they can send their goons to throw them in jail or simply kill them

    They're basically a narco cartel / criminal enterprise that now wields the power of state. They do what they want.
